Keyless Remote Control Fob
Many newer cars have key fobs that allow users to remotely open and close the car's doors, as well as start the engine. Similar to other technologies keys can fail occasionally. Fortunately the majority of key fob issues are not complicated or threatening and can be resolved easily. One of the best ways to stop problems from catching you by surprise is to always carry an extra key.
Batteries are necessary for key fobs, and need to be changed regularly. Certain fobs come with removable covers that make it easy to swap out the battery, while others require a specific tool or dealer assistance. A new battery can last for around one year, no matter the kind of fob you have. A spare battery will also help you avoid being stuck on the way to work in Manhattan, White Plains or elsewhere.
The "flip key" fobs have a flip-out key that comes out when you press a button. The fob also comes with buttons to unlock the door, open the trunk, etc. When not in use, the key can be flipped into a remote. Fobs and flip-keys can be damaged by a number of factors, including water and force blunt. Scratches to the circuit board and excessive heat are also possibilities.
Transponder Chip Keys
If you own a car that was manufactured in the last two decades or so, the chances are that it will require a transponder chip key to start. This technology is designed to prevent car theft using an encrypted signal that only the car's onboard computer can recognize. The key has the same microchip used in military aircraft. The chip communicates with a vehicle's computer system onboard through a ringed cylinder antenna.
The key also has copper wiring that's connected to the microchip. It's this wire that sends a signal to the car's onboard computer when you turn on the ignition. The computer onboard responds by allowing the driver to start the engine. If the code is valid it will remain on and the vehicle will not stop or lock.
Certain Mazda keys need programming (transponder and remote/fob key). These can only be programmed with the help of an auto dealer or locksmith. Other keys aren't required to be programmed. For instance, regular keys made of metal without chips do not require being programmed.
Keys for Keyless Entry Systems
Mazda's Keyless Entry System allows you to unlock and start your vehicle using just one keyfob. The key fob has a security chip which sends a signal to car electronics to open doors and ignition. Some models even come with an unlocked key to start the engine.

To keep the transmitter and receiver in sync, a 40-bit code is generated each time a keyfob button is press. The codes are generated by the transmitter and receiver using a pseudo-random generator so that they don't repeat.
If you are having problems with your Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry system it could be that the transmitter in the car isn't working properly or that the battery inside the fob is low. Bring the key fob to Holiday Mazda in Fond Du Lac, WI to have a technician look at it. If you have a spare electronic key, bring that along to use while you wait for your Mazda service center to fix the issue. Also, remove the plate attached to the key set and put it in a secure place (not in your vehicle). This will provide you with the code you must use to replace the keyfob.
Keys with Remote Control
This keyless remote will work with your Mazda model if it comes with the standard keyless entry system. It can unlock doors and start the vehicle. It can also be used with the factory KEY LOCK. This remote needs to be programmed professionally by an auto locksmith when it is received (click here for Locksmith Search). This is an aftermarket model therefore it doesn't come with an Mazda logo on the back of it.
Key buttons control the door locks, liftgate lid, and fuel-filler (if equipped) as well as the start of the engine of your vehicle, and activate the theft-deterrent system if your vehicle has one. The hazard light and/or warning sound will signal the presence of a problem. For more information, contact your Mazda Authorized Dealer.
It is important not to let children wander around unsupervised when they are using the key. They might be able to control the vehicle's controls or even drive the vehicle. Also, the battery for the key will need to be replaced about once every year. The KEY warning indicator will be displayed in the instrument cluster, or the KEY Battery Replace Warning Beep.
